San Pedro Alcantara
San Pedro Alcantara is situated 70km west of Malaga and just 10km to the west of Central Marbella, a few minutes’ drive away from the natural beauty of the Sierra de Ronda mountain range, and 20km east of Estepona.
With a population of just under 35,000, San Pedro really is a fantastic destination to own a property; it is home to a number of luxury apartments, townhouses and villa complexes, as well as nearby golf courses and some excellent beaches, whilst still retaining features of its colonial past. San Pedro is home to many local Spanish who work in the area so there are a wide range of local and very good value bars, Tapas bars, cafes and restaurants to choose from.
Following the long awaited opening of the infamous San Pedro bypass in June 2012, San Pedro has flourished into a bustling Town, filled with some of the coasts best restaurants, cafes and bars, not to mention the many beach front Chiringuito's (restaurants!) and several beach clubs.
The main area of San Pedro, from the NH San Pedro Hotel all the way through the town to the main square and Church is completely pedestrianised, making the entire area feel alive pretty much 365 days of the year. If you are looking for a holiday destination that has still retained its Spanish roots and feel, then San Pedro is a great place to base yourself.
Many members of the Chestertons Affinity team live close to San Pedro, so even location that's a 5 minute drive/taxi away is a great area to be in.
The cherry on the cake is the soon to be opened San Pedro Boulevard - which is basically a walkway over the newly pedestrian area (located above the A7 motorway) which the Marbella council has invested €80m into over the last two years. Due to open in early 2015, this stunning area has been completely renovated and will become arguably one of the most sought after spots on the southern coast. The boulevard is lined by new cafes and restaurants that spill out onto the wide pavements which overlook the stunning park area.
San Pedro, as well as its neighbour Puerto Banus, has a long stretch of beach front presently stretching from the Bora Bora Beach club in San Pedro west to the area just before the Guadalpin Hotel (Puerto Banus) on the east side of San Pedro. There are many cafes and restaurants lining this established spot, and a personal favourite here is the last Chiringuito you find on the east side of San Pedro, named Kala Kalua - arguably one of the best beach restaurants on the coast!
Amongst the vast selection of restaurants and cafes check out the San Pedro branch of the extremely popular La Sala restaurant. Open from breakfast until very late in the evening, it's a place for all ages with a fantastic menu where you will find something for everyone. La Sala have another restaurant in Puerto Banus which is linked to their club (Aqwa Mist) and also a beach club in Puerto Banus west named Sala Beach. If you are ever passing through Essex in the UK, it's worth checking out La Sala's first venture outside of Spain which, located in the very popular area of Chigwell in Essex, is where you are sure to bump into several stars of TOWIE (The Only way is Essex!)
There are many different types of properties for sale in San Pedro; the main apartment developments in the area are the exclusive Los Arqueros Beach (recently constructed by Taylor Wimpey), Senorio de Guadalmina, Gavia, Noray, Noray Playa, Lorcrisur, Las Adelfas, La Rada, and the super luxurious Bahia de Alcantara and Casablanca Beach.
