Sitio de Calahonda is located 33km west of Malaga Airport and is the largest property development in between Fuengirola and Marbella. Calahonda is located almost half way between Marbella and Fuengirola. This is a well established area which is very popular due to the range of local facilities, as well as its own road train service for those who prefer not to use a car (this runs from the back of Calahonda all the way down to the beach). It is regarded as a prime real estate area due to its proximity to all major towns along the coast, whilst managing to preserve the atmosphere of a small town, although Calahonda has grown dramatically over recent years it has still managed to retain some large open green and relatively strict building control. The properties for sale in Calahonda range from new luxury developments located in the hills in upper Calahonda to large villas located nearer amenities in lower Calahonda.
Calahonda is home to three comercial centres, which are home to around 45-50 restaurants, and most properties in lower Calahonda are within easy walking distance to one of these. All other general amenities can be found in these commercial centres, such as supermarkets, banks, hardware and furniture stores, garden supplies, car hire, travel agencies, hairdressers and bars - so pretty much everything you need to live day to day.
Upper Calahonda is an area that was mainly constructed during the decade from 2000-2010, and is home to mainly apartment developments which enjoy spectacular views to the coast. However, the use of a car is essential when living or staying in this particular area, as apart from the distance from the coast, the steep incline in terrain makes it incredibly difficult to walk anywhere!
In the surrounding 10km there are around ten golf courses, four of which are in the immediate vicinity. There is a large Sports Club (Crown Resort) with numerous facilities including a gym and tennis courts available to residents on a pay as you go basis or an annual membership. Around 5 minute drive from Calahonda (or a 15 minute walk along the beach) you will find the picturesque Marina of Cabopino, with a super family beach and a wide variety of water sports, not to mention a host of great restaurants and Tapas Bars. The excellent state funded hospital (Hospital Costa del Sol) is a five minute drive away too. There are also good educational facilities in the area, with a great selection of private nursery, primary and secondary schools, including the well known English International School (EIC), which is only a five to ten minute drive away. If you prefer that your child attends a Spanish School, girls can attend "Las Chapas School" and boys "Ecos". Both are private Catholic Schools run by Grupo Atendis and are within a five minute drive of Calahonda. The closest state run school is located in La Cala de Mijas where the school provides a free Bus service for Children travelling from Calahonda.
The area is mainly populated by villas and apartments, most of which are dotted around the "horseshoe", or Avenida de Espana as it is officially known. The area is approximately 2.1km long and runs from the Lidl supermarket around in a horseshoe shape back around to the El Zoco shopping centre. With too many apartments and villas for sale in Calahonda to mention, our top spot for this area is arguably Jardines de Calahonda. The development is within easy walking distance to the beach and supermarkets etc, yet has a wonderful isolated feel to it and is extremely residential too with year round residents 365 days of the year. Property prices here have really held their ground during the recession and we have already seen dramatic price increases over the last 12 to 24 months. The main apartments in upper Calahonda are Las Palmeras de Calahonda, Las Cascades and Bonita Hills.
As with much of the Costa del Sol, the area that makes up Riviera del Sol is considered by many to be expat heaven. Covering a small area just west of La Cala and 10minutes drive from the east side of Marbella, this peaceful and attractive area of the coast has plenty of appeal but lacks reputation of many of its larger neighbours. However, if you are looking for walking distance to amenities and the beach, Riviera del Sol is a great option. Apartments and Townhouses for sale in Riviera del Sol cost around the €100,000 to €130,000 mark. For some examples take a look at Bellasol, Aldea, Pueblo Don Miguel and Caronte.
A personal favourite of many of the affinity Humberts team, Miraflores is one of the most established and well maintained communities on the coast, and very likely one of the best you will ever come across. With 24 hour security, absolutely stunning, well maintained gardens and communal areas, a host of onsite restaurants, Tennis and bowls club, a commercial centre, golf course, driving range and full 24 hour concierge all located within the urbanization; it's easy to see why properties here rarely come to market and why rental yields are so high.
There are lots of properties for sale in Miraflores, Rivera, but the main apartment complexes here are Pueblo Miraflores, Club Miraflores, Parque Miraflores, Jardin Miraflores, Monte Miraflores, Rancho Miraflores, Angel Miraflores, Playa Miraflores and Altos Miraflores - Altos Miraflores is located in the vicinity of the Miraflores Golf course, where you will find other beautiful complexes such as the super exclusive Milenio and and Las Olas, plus a host of others with fantastic sea and golf course views.
One of the jewels of the Costa del Sol is the beautiful little village of Mijas, which nestles comfortably on the side of the Sierra de Mijas mountain range, at 428 meters above sea level. It is a superb choice for either holiday or full time living and is just 30km west of Malaga Airport. The population in Mijas Pueblo is 7,500. There are many foreign and English speaking residents in and around the Pueblo, so many in fact that the Town Hall has a very helpful Foreigner's Department which caters for the many needs of those who do not speak Spanish.
If you take a wander through the narrow cobbled streets of this beautiful Andalucian village you will understand what has attracted so many people to settle here over the years. Several artists and writers have made it their home, enjoying the benefits of an excellent all year round climate, without being part of the busier, more commercial coastal towns just 7km (around 15 minutes drive) down the mountain side.
Despite its huge popularity with tourists, Mijas Pueblo has still managed to retain much of its traditional Andalucian charm and way of life, the locals displaying their unabashed passion for all things festive and an unmistakable relaxed outlook on anything that can be put off for another day! A great restaurant to try, amongst many other great Tapas bars cafes, is the very popular Aroma Cafe Secret Garden - perfect for any meat lovers out there!
Mijas Costa is also part of Mijas, where you will find several other areas, such as La Cala, Calahonda, Riviera etc, all of which have their own sections above!
La Cala de Mijas
La Cala is a charming village located around 20 minutes west of Malaga Airport. Here you will find long deep sandy beaches, all of which are well maintained, and a host of general amenities, everything you require to live day to day is within very easy walking distance, ideal for anyone wishing to live life without having to rely on a car.
There is a vast range of apartments for sale in La Cala de Mijas but your main complexes in this area tend to be located on the mountainside of the A7 motorway; at present the top sellers in the area are Alamar and Dream Gardens. Dream Gardens is yet to be constructed but will become an iconic development on the coast once complete.
