Manilva (La Duquesa, Casares and Manilva Town)
Well where do we start when giving you a guide on the beautiful La Duquesa and Casares. La Duquesa and its very traditional Marina, Puerto de La Duquesa, is a good place. A gem on the Costa del Sol, it really is the most unspoilt Marina on the entire coast and doesn't hold the "over the top" reputation like its other fellow Marinas, such as Puerto Banus, Benalmadena, Cabopino and Estepona. Duquesa Marina is heading to the top of the Marina charts as we type! With blue flag beaches either side of the Marina and many restaurants, wine bars and beach "chiringitos" to choose from, it is hard to see why you would holiday anywhere else. But on top of this, La Duquesa is a great all round destination, it has the town of Sabanillas just a few minutes walk away, it's within a few minutes buggy ride to some of the best golf courses on the entire Costa del Sol, including Finca Cortesin, Dona Julia, Valle Romano and the world famous Valderrama in Sotogrande, making it an ideal location for golfers. The town of Estepona is an 8 minute car journey away, where you will find the traditional old town, yet another Marina and masses of cafes, bars, restaurants and general amenities. But the absolute cherry on the top of the cake in this area is by far Casares village, just 10 minutes drive up the mountain. It's what true Spanish life is all about. A quaint village with breathtaking views and a beautiful little church as the centre piece of this idyllic haven.
The village is located 10 km from the beach of Casares, up the Casares road, and the journey itself is short but memorable. There are four seriously good local restaurants on this road, many that have been highly rated on TripAdvisor, and are arguably some of the best restaurants in Andalucia, let alone the entire Costa del Sol! To name but a few for you foodies out there, check out Venta Garcia, El Horno de La Miel and The Forge - these are without a doubt some of the best eateries you will have the pleasure of dining in whilst is Spain.
Manilva Town is an area lying just a few minutes in the car from La Duquesa Marina, and covers and area of just under 36km2. It is the home of several wonderful Spanish restaurants and the area is predominantly occupied by Spanish with very little English spoken in the town itself and although there are many apartments and townhouses located close to the main square the majority of land in Manilva is taken up by privately owned vineyards and is extremely green and undeveloped. The main square has a picturesque pedestrianised area lined with whitewashed properties and is well worth a visit!
Right, what else can we tell you? Well, apart from the abundance of decent quality golf courses, fabulous restaurants and huge sandy beaches you will also be interested to know that the local town halls in Manilva and Casares are building a large "paseo", which is a promenade to you and I. It will eventually stretch from Gibraltar through to Malaga with only a few breaks in for the Marinas of La Duquesa, Sotogrande, Estepona, Puerto Banus, Marbella, Cabopino, Benalmadena, also river mouths and the odd area where the beach is too narrow, namely El Faro on the Mijas Costa. This walkway is already 60% in place along the coast and is what will make the Costa del Sol even more unique than it already is, when compared with an any other European or even Worldwide destination. Effectively you will be able to cycle/walk from one end of the coast to the other, on the longest promenade in Europe! Each major town of the coast; Manilva, Estepona, Marbella, Mijas and Malaga has the walkway already in place and is already a top spot for families, dog walkers, joggers and cyclists as it is a truly stunning way to start or end your day. In fact most of the paseo's are lined with restaurants, cafes and ice cream kiosk's, so it's easy to get distracted from your "healthy" stroll or cycle by having the beach on one side and the smell of coffee and croissants on the other!

If you are looking for an all-round great investment and holiday home we would recommend the following developments within the area, again please feel free to email or call us us so we can send you our top 10 properties of the week.
Fuente de La Duquesa - A Spanish Pueblo (village) style development with beautiful tropical gardens. Fuente has around 150 apartments in the complex, built in small white pretty looking buildings, each building with up to 10 apartments. Some have wonderful sea views, some have garden and swimming pool views, but one thing is for sure, every view is different and vivid. Fuente de La Duquesa is a short walk (15 minutes) to the Marina of La Duquesa and the blue flag beaches.
Duquesa Suites - A horseshoe shaped development with just over 170 apartments, nearly all with stunning views of the Marina and the coastline towards Marbella and all surrounding mountains. Some even have views to the west towards Gibraltar and Morocco. Each apartment has a decent sized terrace, large enough to fit a dining table and sunbed on. There is also 24 hour security in the development, underground parking and 3 swimming pools, 2 paddle tennis courts, plus disabled access is excellent in this development, it even has a lift into the main swimming pool and ramps located everywhere.
Duquesa Regent - Probably the best views in La Duquesa come from Duquesa Regent. Built on an incline, this development over looks most of the area of La Duquesa and Manilva. With only 100 apartments in total, it's not easy to find a good deal here, although we have recently had 2 repossession apartments for sale here, selling at just under 120,000€ each. Duquesa Regent is walking distance to Monte Duquesa Square (5 minutes), a small hub of amenities that serves the local residents well, if you don't fancy the extra 6 minute stroll into the Marina of La Duquesa that is.
Duquesa Village - A favourite in our office! This development is one of the newest in the area, with marble flooring throughout, granite worktops in the fully fitted kitchens, jacuzzi baths and air conditioning all as standard. This development is a box ticker! It also has 24 hour security, 5 swimming pools, tennis courts and underground parking with storage rooms for each owner. On top of all that it's hard to find an apartment in Duquesa village that doesn't have panoramic views of the coast!
Duquesa fairways - As the name would suggest, this development has great views over La Duquesa golf course, with views all the way down the 6th and 7th fairway and then to the sea. With 2 bedroom apartments starting from just 95,000€ this is a golfers paradise. Underground parking comes with each property as does an ample terrace. Good quality finishes including marble flooring throughout, AC and double glazed windows.
Marina de la Duquesa - This development is the only development within the actual Marina that has a large garden and pool area. Built in the shape of a "W" and frontline to the beach of La Duquesa, this is a firm favourite in the area for families and investors. Not many properties come up for sale in Marina de La Duquesa, and those that do are normally rented half of the year making them impossible to even access, but when we can access them they sell very quickly. No car is needed, even though an underground parking space comes with almost every property, and you are within 100 metres of all amenities including the beach, Marina etc. This gated development has 3 huge swimming pools and direct access to the beach., 24 hour security and Paddle tennis courts, so if you are looking for rental returns, this is THE place to invest in the area.
Marina Real - The newest apartments built right in the heart of the Marina of La Duquesa. One third of the development have views of the La Duquesa Marina, sea and beaches, with another third looking over La Duquesa golf course towards the mountains and remaining properties looking over one of the two swimming pools. The properties were built just over 8 years ago and have underground parking, a rare thing for port based properties! There are also 2 swimming pools and direct beach access from these gems of apartments. As all the restaurants have a midnight last orders policy, there is the assurance that the noise of the Marina won't keep you up all night, but just long enough to know what you are missing when you have a night in! It's also important to know that the Marina of La Duquesa is a more family orientated Marina than others such a Puerto Banus, Estepona etc as there are no nightclubs as such, just restaurants and bars that are all child friendly.
Puerto de La Duquesa - These are the white coloured buildings which surround the actual Marina. Being the original properties that were constructed when the Marina was built during the 1980's. Although apartments in the Marina do not have access to a swimming pool, they are in general just a few metres walk from the beach and sea. There is very limited underground parking within Puerto de La Duquesa, with most residents taking advantage of the masses of free parking on offer in and around the Marina.
Most properties in the Puerto de La Duquesa either overlook the stunning port, or have beach and sea views, in fact it's rare to find an apartment here which doesn't have a view!
Mikonos Playa - This sought after intimate development of apartments is located directly in front of Marina de La Duquesa. Painted white and pale blue, with a great pool area and fantastic sea views, this well located complex has lift access and underground car parking facilities. Due to the location, Mikonos Playa can offer fantastic rental return, and although some of the properties border the A7 coastal road, it's still extremely rare to find any resale properties within the entire development, and prices rarely dip below €180,000.
Casares del Sol - A 4 minute drive from the La Duquesa Marina, but only a 10-15 minute walk to the Casares beach, this development is one of the most heavily reduced in price. Original starting prices were around 280,000€ for a 2 bedroom apartment, and we have to date sold over 60 units under 100,000€. The apartments have great views of the sea, golf or huge pool areas and the specification of each unit is very high. This is one of the only developments that has a flat ish walk to the beach. It is also located at the bottom of the Casares road, meaning you are just a few minutes drive away from the most photographed village on the coast and the most sought after restaurants in Andalucia!
La Duquesa and Casares are also home to severla new build developments, including Vinedos del Mar and Jardines del Mar in La Duquesa, plus the fabulous Quabit Casares, and the stunning villas and apartments at the Finca Cortesin Resort and Spa.
